Ryde School Sets Sail in Iconic Round The Island Race

Ryde School scored a massive win off the water after borrowing two sleek J70s from The Royal Thames Yacht Club to take on the legendary Round The Island Yacht Race.

First-Timers and Veterans Join Forces

The Ryde School Blue crew featured Year 10 rookies Ruby, Sam, Catherine, Kai, and Alice, taking on their very first challenge around the Isle of Wight. Meanwhile, the Red squad boasted Year 11 sailors Fred, Finn, Noah, Killian, and Monty, bringing a bit more experience to the decks.

Weather Woes Won’t Stop These Young Sailors

Despite Friday’s grim forecast, both teams braved the elements and expertly navigated the full 50.1 nautical miles—around the entire Isle of Wight.

A Race Steeped in History

Running since 1931, this annual event pairs amateur youth like Ryde’s finest with seasoned pros, giving these aspiring sailors a truly unforgettable experience.
