Deadly 6.3 Magnitude Quake Hits Western Afghanistan
A violent 6.3-magnitude earthquake has rocked western Afghanistan, leaving at least 15 dead and 78 injured. The tremor struck near the city of Herat, close to the Iranian border, at around 11:00 local time (06:30 GMT), the US Geological Survey confirmed.
Buildings Collapse, Chaos Ensues
The powerful earthquake caused widespread destruction, toppling buildings and trapping many under rubble. Residents of Herat described the terror as the initial quake was followed by no less than three strong aftershocks, turning the city into a scene of panic.
Hospitals Overwhelmed, Fear Runs High
More than 70 injured have been rushed to Herat’s main hospital, where medics are battling to save lives amid the chaos. Student Idrees Arsala, who survived the disaster, called the experience “very horrible,” highlighting the fear and confusion during the frantic evacuation.
