Emergency teams raced to Budleigh Salterton beach at 10:25am today after swimmers got into serious trouble in the water. Several people were pulled to safety and are now receiving medical checks.

Coastguard and RNLI crews are still scouring the waters, searching for anyone missing. Police and ambulance services have been deployed in force as emergency teams battle the unfolding crisis.
“There is a significant emergency response ongoing,” officials warned. “For public safety, no one should enter the water along this stretch while the incident unfolds.”
Christmas Day Swim Warning Issued for Budleigh and Exmouth
Devon and Cornwall Police have issued a firm warning against taking part in the traditional Christmas Day swim at Budleigh Salterton and neighbouring Exmouth beaches.
“Please avoid entering the water or the area. Emergency services are tied up with this incident. Further updates will follow.”
Hundreds had gathered for unofficial festive dips when the emergency struck around 10am. HM Coastguard dispatched rescue teams from Exmouth, Beer, Torbay, plus search and rescue helicopters to assist.
