Massive Chemical Spill Sparks Evacuation on Cray Road Sidcup
Hydrochloric Acid Leak Causes Chaos
Emergency crews rushed to a factory on Cray Road in Sidcup just before 9pm tonight after a major chemical spill.
Firefighters were called to tackle a hydrochloric acid leak inside the boiler house, used for on-site sanitation. The hazardous spill prompted a full evacuation of around 200 people before the London Fire Brigade arrived.
Firefighters Suit Up for Toxic Incident
Six fire engines stormed the scene via Edgington Road. Crews donned chemical suits and breathing apparatus as they entered the contaminated boiler block to isolate the acid leak.
An LFB spokesman confirmed the situation is now under control and no injuries have been reported.
Road Closures Hit Sidcup Traffic
The A224 Cray Road is shut both ways from the A20 By-Pass (Crittal’s Corner) to A211 Sidcup Hill due to the police incident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
The Brigade was called at 8:39pm and swiftly contained the chemical hazard, preventing further danger to the public and emergency responders.
