Crash Chaos at Dartford Tunnel: Two Lorries Collide, Huge Delays
Kent Police, Highways England traffic officers, and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service have rushed to the scene of a crash at the Dartford Crossing.
Two UK-registered HGVs smashed into each other inside the eastern tunnel, with CCTV footage from Highways England confirming the collision.
Tunnel Shut, Heavy Vehicles Diverted
The eastern tunnel is now closed. A strict 15.8-metre height restriction has been enforced, forcing larger vehicles to seek alternative routes.
The western tunnel remains open but traffic is backed up for miles. Drivers face delays of around 55 minutes and queues stretching up to 8 miles.
Injuries and Investigation Underway
Paramedics are treating both lorry drivers. One driver has sustained a leg injury, though the full extent of injuries is still unknown.
Kent Police statement: “Officers are currently at the scene of a collision at the eastern tunnel at the Dartford Crossing. The incident was reported around 11.20am on Thursday 14 October 2021 involving two lorries. The eastern tunnel remains closed while the western tunnel is open. Please expect delays and plan your journey accordingly.”
Motorists are warned to avoid the area if possible and prepare for significant hold-ups in Kent.
