Emergency Services Rush to Honour Oak Road After Building Collapse
Chaos erupted in Southeast London last night as emergency crews swarmed Honour Oak Road following the partial collapse of a building at around 5.30pm on Monday, December 19th.
Gable End Collapses at Art Workshop
Firefighters from Forest Hill, New Cross, Greenwich, and Peckham stations dashed to the scene after the gable end of a terraced building, used as a shop and art studio, gave way. Specialist USAR teams from Heston and Croydon were also called in to assist.
Station Commander Dan Capon said: “Honor Oak Park was closed whilst crews made the scene safe and a 25-metre cordon was put in place as a precaution. One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders was used as an observational tower at the scene to assess damage from above.”
Residents Evacuated, Road Closed
Two people living in the affected building managed to self-rescue before emergency services arrived but have been left homeless. Surrounding properties were evacuated amid fears of further collapse.
Local council building control officers and emergency scaffolders have been called in to secure the site. Multiple cordons remain in place, and motorists are urged to find alternative routes while investigations continue.
No Injuries Reported After Full Search
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed:
“Firefighters carried out a full search of the building and removed loose masonry. There were no reports of any injuries. The Brigade was called at 17:24 and the incident wrapped up by 21:15.”
Emergency crews continue working to ensure the safety of the area as welcome relief that no one was hurt sinks in.
