Eurostar Suspends London-Paris Trains Over WWII Bomb Scare at Gare du Nord
Services Halted Amid Bomb Alert
Eurostar has ground to a halt between London and Paris after an unexploded Second World War bomb was found near the tracks at Paris Gare du Nord. The discovery sparked immediate safety measures, leaving thousands of passengers stranded as 10 morning services were cancelled on Friday.
The channel tunnel operator has urged travellers to avoid all travel plans today, warning of ongoing delays.
A Eurostar statement read: “Due to an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord, we are expecting disruption to our services this morning. Please change your journey for a different date of travel.” They added all trains from Paris to London are cancelled until at least 12:09 PM, with no sign of quick resumption.
French Rail Operator Speaks Out
France’s national rail company, SNCF, confirmed that all services at Gare du Nord are suspended until mid-morning at the request of police, who have cordoned off the area.
SNCF urged passengers to postpone their trips while bomb disposal teams work to neutralise the threat in Saint-Denis.
Who’s Affected?
- London to Paris: 10 morning departures cancelled.
- Paris to London: All trains suspended until further notice, starting no earlier than 12:09 PM.
- Brussels to London and Amsterdam routes: Currently running as normal.
Passenger Rights & Alternatives
Eurostar is letting travellers reschedule tickets free of charge, subject to seat availability in the same class. But unlike air travel, UK rail passengers have limited rights when it comes to compensation or alternative transport.
Bomb Disposal Underway – Safety First
Authorities have evacuated the Saint-Denis area near Gare du Nord. A specialised bomb squad is carefully working to make the device safe. Services will only restart once it’s clear and safe to proceed.
For the latest updates, passengers should follow Eurostar’s official channels. Safety remains the priority as efforts continue to get trains moving again soon.
