Blaze Breaks Out at Burger King Southampton
A fire ripped through the ventilation system at Burger King on Above Bar Street, Southampton, sending smoke billowing from the roof. The fast-food joint was evacuated before firefighters arrived, thankfully avoiding any injuries.
Massive Fire Response
Hampshire Fire and Rescue scrambled four fire engines – two from St Mary’s, one from Redbridge, and one from Romsey – plus an aerial ladder platform from St Mary’s to tackle the flames. At the peak, 30 firefighters fought the blaze.
“The Burger King venue had been evacuated prior to our arrival by staff after the fire alarm was raised,” said Mark Buddon, Station Manager at Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services.
Firefighters Battle Flames with Full Force
Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and two main jets to douse the fire. Crews are now focused on cutting away and dampening hotspots throughout the afternoon, using thermal imaging cameras to spot any lingering sparks.
Damage Contained to First Floor
Early reports suggest the damage is confined to the first floor of the restaurant. The cause is believed to be the ventilation system, but investigations continue.
