Leroy Harding Jailed After Wild 70mph Police Chase Through Melksham
High-speed terror on Melksham streets
Leroy Harding, 35, from Elm Grove, Southdown, Bath, admitted dangerous driving, cannabis possession, and driving while disqualified at Swindon Crown Court last Friday.
The court sentenced him to prison and slapped an 11-year-and-five-month driving ban on Harding.
On January 9, police were alerted to Harding speeding recklessly through Melksham just after 9.25pm. He tore through a 30mph zone at over 70mph, swerving onto pavements and going the wrong way round a town centre roundabout.
Chaotic chase ends in crash and capture
Not stopping there, Harding continued driving on the wrong side, overtaking vehicles dangerously. The drama ended when he crashed and fled on foot—only to be arrested shortly after.
Judge and cops slam reckless behaviour
The judge called Harding’s driving record “appalling” and told him to use his prison time to consider the chaos he caused.
“Harding’s actions were incredibly reckless, and it’s a miracle that no one was injured,” said Detective Constable Ian Tilley of the Fortitude Team.
“This chase happened at 9.30pm when pedestrians and drivers were about. He put all their lives at risk.”
“An 11-year-and-five-month ban makes it crystal clear: dangerous driving like this won’t be tolerated and will lead to heavy consequences.”
