Terror Convict Jailed Again for Secret Moped Ownership

Trevor Mulindwa, 25, a convicted terrorist offender, has been slammed back behind bars after police caught him owning a moped he failed to declare.

On Probation, Breaking Strict Counter Terror Rules

Mulindwa, from south-west London, was freed in June 2018 but remained on a 15-year Part 4 Counter Terrorism Act 2008 notification order. This meant he had to inform police about any new motor vehicle purchases.

On 13 November 2019, cops discovered Mulindwa owned a moped he never reported. They seized the vehicle immediately and arrested him the next day at his home, where they also found the moped keys.

During a search of the moped, officers found a locked internet-enabled smartphone in the top box — a clear breach of his probation license. Mulindwa was promptly recalled to prison.

Quick Justice: Guilty Plea and Jail Time

  • 12 May 2020: Mulindwa charged with breaching the Part 4 notification requirement.
  • 22 May 2020: He pleaded guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
  • Sentence: Eight weeks in prison plus a £122 victim surcharge.

Mulindwa’s original sentence was handed down on 22 December 2015, when he got six years for preparing an act of terrorism. He was caught planning to join Al-Shabaab in Somalia.

Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command, said: “There are clear rules for registered terrorist offenders who are subject to notification orders and Mulindwa broke one of them. Notification orders serve a serious purpose and are an important tool to help keep the public safe from harm.”
