Explosion Sparks Fire at Penge Maisonette Block
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters rushed to a blaze at a maisonette block on Woodbine Grove, Penge today.
Bedroom Explosion Triggers Fire
The drama started with reports of an explosion in a bedroom. The fire gutted part of a split-level six-room maisonette on the third and fourth floors of the four-storey building.
Residents Escape, Treated for Smoke Inhalation
A man and woman managed to flee the burning flat before firefighters arrived. Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service treated them on the scene for smoke inhalation.
Fire Under Control Within an Hour
The Brigade was called at 11.07am and had the fire under control by 12.02pm. Fire crews from Beckenham, Woodside, and West Norwood stations battled the blaze.
The fire’s cause remains a mystery. Specialists from the London Fire Brigade are currently investigating.
