Massive Chemical Leak Sparks School Lockdown in South London

Firefighters and emergency teams rushed to a South London boys’ school this afternoon after a dangerous chemical gas escape.

Hazmat Teams Scramble to Shirley Road School

Just after 3pm on Monday, November 28th, the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance’s Hazardous Area Response Teams (Hart), and gas-tight suit specialists arrived at an independent boys’ school on Shirley Road. The site was immediately locked down following the chemical alert.

Sulphuric Acid and Chlorine Gas Escape Triggers Alarm

Reports say 15 litres of sulphuric acid mixed with chlorine gas leaked inside a boiler complex. It’s still unclear if anyone was injured or exposed.

The London Fire Brigade and ambulance services have been contacted for comment.
