Fire Breaks Out in Southampton Flat – Road Closed as Crews Tackle Blaze
Firefighters from Hightown and Eastleigh raced to a burning flat in Southampton this afternoon. The alarm was raised just after 3pm on Monday, sending crews to a block on Wharncliffe Road, Woolston.
Fourth Floor Fire Sparks Road Closure
The blaze ripped through a flat on the fourth floor of the multi-dwelling building. Police quickly shut the road, diverting traffic to keep locals safe while firefighters worked to douse the flames.
Electrical Fault Blamed, No Injuries
The fire caused both fire and smoke damage to the property, but thankfully no one was hurt. Fire crews determined the fire started due to an electrical fault.
“It was an electrical fire and the occupier was out. There was no working smoke alarm in the property, which means the fire could have been a lot worse and gone undetected,” said Hightown watch manager Richard Mount.
The quick response from fire crews prevented what could have been a much more serious incident, highlighting the vital role of smoke alarms in flat safety.
