Blaze Erupts in Beckton Flat – Flames Rip Through Three-Storey Building
Firefighters, police, and paramedics rushed to a flat fire on Tollgate Road, Beckton, East London this Thursday afternoon. The fierce blaze tore through a three-storey residential block, sparking chaos and emergency response.
Firefighters Battle Intense Flames
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from nearby stations including East Ham, Plaistow, and Barking. An aerial ladder platform was also brought in to tackle the towering flames engulfing the first and second floors, along with the staircase connecting them.
Witnesses reported seeing people jump from the burning building to escape the inferno. Flames were clearly visible licking the windows on the top floor, as emergency crews scrambled to contain the fire.
Road Closures and Bus Diversions in Effect
Authorities have closed roads around Tollgate Road, causing major disruption. Bus services are diverted, and drivers are urged to avoid the area and find alternative routes.
Investigation Underway as Authorities Assess Cause
A spokesperson from the LFB confirmed the fire was reported at 17:24 but stressed the cause remains unknown. Both the London Ambulance Service and the Metropolitan Police were called to the scene and have been approached for further comment.
“Firefighters have been called to a flat fire on Tollgate Road in Beckton. The first and second floors, plus the staircase, are alight. Six engines and 40 firefighters are at the scene,” said the LFB spokesperson.
