Fat Friday Fireball! A blaze ripped through a Clapham restaurant on Wandsworth Road, sparking a huge fire response. Six fire engines and 35 firefighters swung into action after flames broke out in the eatery’s ventilation system.
Grease Fire Rips Through Restaurant Ducts
Firefighters discovered that half the restaurant’s ducting – running from the ground floor up to the third floor flats above – was gutted by fire. Smoke damage also hit the flats above, with about 10 residents evacuated. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Grease Buildup Blamed for Blaze
The London Fire Brigade revealed the likely culprit: fat and grease deposits inside the ducting ignited by a grill ember. A Brigade spokesperson warned, “Restaurant and take-away owners should always keep extraction systems spotless. Fat and grease buildup in filters can spark dangerous fires.”
Firefighters Save the Day
