Huge blaze hits Welling High Street shop and flats – 97 firefighters battle inferno
Fifteen fire engines and nearly a hundred firefighters rushed to tackle a fierce fire at a shop with flats above on Welling High Street this afternoon.
Half the ground-floor shop was engulfed in flames, alongside a small section of a first-floor flat. London’s 999 control centre received 18 frantic calls from the public.
One man was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service, but thankfully there were no reports of serious injuries.
Firefighters bring chaos under control after nearly four hours
The fire brigade was alerted at 4pm and had the situation under control by 7.38pm. Fire crews from Bexley, Plumstead, Erith, Sidcup and nearby stations joined the intense operation.
Cause of the blaze remains mystery
Investigators are now probing what sparked the devastating fire. No official cause has been confirmed yet.
