Blazing Bedroom Fire in Stepney Maisonette

Last night, a fire tore through a first-floor bedroom in a split-level maisonette on Ben Johnson Road, Stepney. Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters raced to the scene, tackling the blaze swiftly. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Flames Sparked by Halogen Lamp

The London Fire Brigade revealed the fire was likely triggered accidentally by a halogen lamp. A Brigade spokesperson warned, “Lightbulbs can become extremely hot and ignite combustible materials.”

They urged residents to keep lamps away from flammable items like books, clothes, sheets, and curtains to avoid such disasters.

The Brigade received 11 emergency calls about the fire and had it fully extinguished within 21 minutes, after being called at 9.05 p.m. Fire crews from Shadwell, Whitechapel, Poplar, and Millwall pitched in.
