British Airways Flight Diverts to Venice Over Technical Glitch
A British Airways flight from London Gatwick to Sharm el-Sheikh made an unexpected pit stop in Venice on December 23rd after a suspected technical fault.
Emergency Landing at Venice Marco Polo Airport
Flight BA2814 left Gatwick at 08:59 but, after two hours and 18 minutes in the air, the plane diverted to Venice Marco Polo Airport. The landing was smooth and safe, with no injuries reported.
BA Says Passenger Safety Comes First
A British Airways spokesperson told UKNIP: “Our aircraft diverted as a precaution because of a suspected minor technical issue. We’re sorry to our customers for the disruption to their journeys and our teams are working hard to get them on their way again as quickly as possible.”
The airline stressed that passenger and crew safety remains the top priority at all times.
Customers Offered Accommodation and Support
Passengers who needed to stay overnight in Venice will be provided with accommodation. British Airways confirmed the flight will continue to Sharm el-Sheikh the next day.
“Our teams are working hard to get customers’ travel plans back on track as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson added.
