Dramatic Rescue as Man Trapped in Erith Mudflats
A nail-biting rescue unfolded yesterday morning when a man got stuck in treacherous mudflats near Erith. Emergency services raced against time and the incoming tide in a high-stakes operation.
Multi-Agency Team Scrambles to Save Trapped Man
The drama kicked off just after 10am on July 22. HM Coastguard called in for urgent help after reports of the man trapped in the muddy flats at Erith Rands. The risk was grim as the tide steadily advanced.
London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, a specialist drone team, and an RNLI lifeboat crew all scrambled to the scene. A key lifeboat crew member took charge on the ground, coordinating the tricky rescue amid unstable conditions.
Coastguard and Firefighters Join Forces to Beat the Tide
“When we arrived, we found the man but couldn’t reach him at first,” said RNLI Duty Commander Dave Greenfield. “We sent a crew member ashore to liaise with the London Coastguard and guide firefighters, who used specialist kit to get to the casualty.”
Using mudpaths — specially laid mats providing stable footing over the slippery mud — crews finally hauled the man to safety. Paramedics treated him on-site immediately after the tense rescue.
Fire Brigade Praise Quick Action and Teamwork
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed: “Firefighters were called at 10:09am and finished their vital work by 12:02pm. Crews from Erith and Plumstead worked seamlessly throughout.”
The rescue is a testament to swift, coordinated emergency responses along the Thames and the lifesaving power of teamwork. The rescued man’s identity remains undisclosed but he is stable following the ordeal.
