Chaos at Guy’s Hospital After Suspected Chemical Blast
Patients and staff were rushed out of Guy’s Hospital in central London this morning following reports of a possible chemical explosion in the basement. Emergency crews swarmed the scene as firefighters helped evacuate vulnerable patients, including an elderly woman with a walking stick.
Major Emergency Response Underway
London Fire Brigade, ambulances, and police flooded the area near 1 Bridge as a huge cordon was set up. Traffic and pedestrian access have been restricted while hazardous material experts worked to ventilate the building and assess the situation.
Fire Brigade Confirms Chemical Incident
“Firefighters are responding to reports of chemical incident at Guy’s Hospital. Two fire engines, two Fire Rescue Units, a Command Unit and specialist hazardous materials officers have been sent to the scene. Crews are carrying out operations to ventilate the building,” said a London Fire Brigade spokesperson.
The Brigade was first alerted just before 9am. Teams from Whitechapel, Dowgate, Euston, and nearby stations responded swiftly. Patients, visitors, and staff were evacuated from the basement and ground floors as a safety precaution.
