Pensioner Dies After Horror Fall at Hayling Island Curry House
A 65-year-old man has tragically died after falling down the stairs at a Hayling Island curry house in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Incident at Gandhi Restaurant
Ambulance crews were called to the Gandhi Restaurant on Hollow Lane, South Hayling, just after 1am on Saturday. The pensioner was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham but sadly died before 10am.
Night Out Turns Fatal
The man was with three other men, all dining and drinking together on Friday evening. An eyewitness said the group seemed in good spirits before leaving.
“They just appeared to be having a good Friday night out,” she said. “Then, as they went to leave, there seemed to be some kind of disagreement between two of the men. The next thing we knew there were screams as the older gentleman fell down the stairs.”
Police Probe Continues
Detectives revealed the pensioner died from a head injury sustained in the fall. A 34-year-old man has been released under investigation. Two other men, aged 32 and 37, initially arrested on suspicion of murder, have also been released.
Police urge anyone who dined at the restaurant that night and has not yet spoken to officers to come forward. They believe vital information could help the investigation.
