England and Wales Set to Swelter in Sizzling Heatwave
Brace yourselves! Much of England and Wales is gearing up to roast this week with temperatures soaring above 30°C. London could see the mercury hit the mid-30s by Tuesday, turning the capital into a proper heat trap.
What’s Causing the Hot Spell?
The Met Office blames a powerful high-pressure system combined with a strong southerly airflow pushing the heat northwards. By Wednesday, heatwave conditions are expected to hit southern and central England hard.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree warned: “Warmth is the focus in the forecast in the first half of this week, with temperatures likely to peak on Tuesday around the mid-30s, but remaining above average in the second half of the week, particularly further to the southeast.”
Not All Sunshine: Showers and Thunderstorms on the Horizon
- Northwest Scotland faces showers on Monday but will warm up to the high 20s by Tuesday.
- Monday evening could bring thundery downpours to southern and western areas, moving north and east overnight.
- Expect more widespread thundery showers from late Wednesday into Thursday, especially heavy rain in Scotland and northwest England.
- By the weekend, high pressure returns for mostly dry, sunny weather, though isolated thunderstorms may still pop up in the south.
Tropical Nights and Heat Safety Warning
As if sizzling days weren’t enough, southeastern England could face “tropical nights” where temperatures don’t dip below 20°C. That’s some sticky sleeping weather!
The Met Office is urging everyone to stay hydrated, avoid intense outdoor activity during the peak heat, and look out for vulnerable neighbours.
