Tragic fire claims life in Islington flat

Emergency services were scrambled just after 8am on Saturday to Warley House, Mitchison Road, following reports of a fire. Neighbours dialled 999 after spotting smoke billowing from the building.

Four fire crews battle blaze

Four fire crews stormed the scene in a bid to tackle the fire inside the Islington flat. Despite their swift response and entry into the property, they found one occupant missing – who sadly was later confirmed dead.

Neighbours safe as cordon remains

Police confirmed the fire was confined to the single flat. Occupants of nearby flats were safely evacuated as a precaution. A tight cordon remains in place while investigations continue.

Probe launched by Fire Brigade and Met Police

The London Fire Brigade and Met Police have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Both authorities have been approached for comment.
