New Defibrillators Set to Save Lives in West Midlands Schools
Life-Saving Gear Donated to Schools
Fastaid, a Community First Responder charity, has received a vital boost with a fresh batch of defibrillators. These life-saving devices will be handed out to schools across the West Midlands. The rollout is a team effort with local heroes Jude, Jobe, and the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) driving the initiative.
Every Second Counts in Cardiac Arrests
When a cardiac arrest strikes, starting CPR and using a defibrillator immediately can be the difference between life and death. Survival chances drop a staggering 10% every minute without proper treatment. More defibs in the community mean more saved lives.
“This is an incredible gesture from Jude and Jobe, one that will help save lives in the communities where the defibrillators are placed,” said Tim Cronin, WMAS Community Response Manager. “The importance of prompt CPR and defibrillation cannot be overstated.”
Reminder from a Football Tragedy Turned Triumph
The world still remembers footballer Christian Eriksen’s shocking cardiac arrest during Euro 2020. Thanks to swift CPR and defibrillator use, Eriksen survived and returned to top-flight football. This incident highlights why quick access to defibrillators is crucial.
Community Defibs Linked to National Network
Once installed, the donated defibrillators will be registered on the Circuit, the UK’s national defibrillator network. When someone calls 999 in an emergency, ambulance dispatchers can quickly direct them to the nearest defibrillator — shaving precious seconds off response times.
