KFC Faces Nationwide Chicken Shortage Crisis – Hundreds of Stores Shut

UK chicken lovers are left hungry as a massive logistics meltdown forces KFC to shut dozens of stores nationwide. What started as a local shortage has snowballed into a country-wide chaos, leaving fans of the famous fried chicken with empty plates and rumbling tummies.

Chicken Drought Closes Two-Thirds of KFC Outlets

Hundreds of KFC branches plastered signs blaming a “hiccup” as they pulled down shutters, awaiting fresh stock. The crisis erupted after DHL took over KFC’s delivery contract, triggering a chicken drought that shut 600 stores.

On Monday, KFC revealed nearly 300 outlets remained closed, with many others slashing their menus or hours. That’s about two-thirds of its 900 UK stores struggling to serve up their signature buckets.

DHL Delivery Glitch Sparks Fried Chicken Fiasco

DHL, appointed in November to handle supply for the KFC empire, admitted “operational issues” caused delivery delays. The company apologised, pledging to work fast to fix the problem. KFC previously used Bidvest Logistics for its chicken deliveries.

“We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 stores across the country is pretty complex!” KFC said.

KFC insisted it won’t compromise on quality, so no deliveries mean some restaurants stay closed while others offer limited menus or reduced hours.

KFC Promises to Restock ‘Around the Cluck’

In a tweet, KFC UK & Ireland urged customers to check their website for open outlets, promising: “We’re updating this as regularly as we can, and our teams are working around the cluck to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible.”

Fried chicken fans can only hope the supply lines soon get back on track, ending the UK’s great KFC chicken shortage.
