Blaze Rips Through Portsmouth Flat Above Tesco Express

More than 40 firefighters battled a fierce blaze tearing through a fourth-floor flat above Tesco Express in Portsmouth’s bustling Gunwharf Quays today. Thick smoke poured from the windows, sending shoppers and locals into alarm.

Firefighters Race To Tackle Huge Flames

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed nine fire engines and around 45 firefighters to the scene after the call came through at 12:58pm. The fire is believed to have started in a kitchen on the fourth floor.

All residents were evacuated swiftly as crews deployed specialist equipment to bring the flames under control. One person received minor treatment on-site but avoided hospital.

Roads Sealed Off, But Shops Stay Open

Police sealed off roads near Gunwharf Quays to keep the public safe. Despite the chaos, the shopping centre remained open to pedestrians, though residents were warned to stay indoors and keep windows and doors firmly shut.

Emergency services continue to monitor the scene as investigations into the fire’s cause get underway.
