Blaze Erupts at Casa Brasil Restaurant in Port Solent
A fierce fire tore through Casa Brasil in Port Solent late last night, sending smoke billowing from the popular restaurant’s roof. The blaze broke out just after 10pm in the kitchen’s meat preparation area before spreading to the ventilation ducting and roof.
Massive Fire Response from Hampshire Crews
Six fire engines from across Hampshire raced to the scene, including teams from Southsea, Cosham, Portchester, Fareham, and Eastleigh. An aerial ladder from Southsea was deployed to battle the flames leaping from the roof.
At the fire’s peak, around 40 firefighters were on-site, cutting into the roof to tackle hotspots and prevent the inferno from spreading further.
Emergency Evacuation and No Injuries Reported
Police and emergency services swiftly evacuated the area and established cordons, moving crowds safely away. Though some visitors had to abandon vehicles overnight, thankfully no injuries were reported. All staff from Casa Brasil are accounted for.
Damage Contained, Investigation Underway
Jim Clarke of Hampshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the damage was mostly confined to the ventilation system and part of the roof. Water damage was also reported inside the building.
“Fire crews will remain on site for several hours as they cut away damaged roofing and deal with hotspots,” said Clarke.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
