Blaze Breaks Out in Sholden: Lawn Mower Fire Rages Through Three Homes
Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to a blazing fire in Cornfield Row, Sholden, near Deal, after reports of a lawnmower fire in a carport quickly spiralled out of control.
Fire Spreads Fast, Destroys Three Properties
The fire rapidly jumped from the lawnmower to a car, then engulfed the carport. Before long, flames were licking at the roofs of three adjoining homes. Firefighters dispatched four engines and a height vehicle to tackle the inferno.
On arrival, crews found roofs ablaze and extensive fire and water damage throughout. Using breathing apparatus and powerful jets, firefighters battled the blaze with determination.
Quick Action Prevents Further Disaster
Thanks to swift defensive tactics and the use of a compressed air foam system, crews stopped the fire from reaching the roof space of a fourth property. That house only suffered minor external damage.
Miraculously, there were no injuries.
Cause Under Investigation, Support Provided
Initial evidence points to an accidental start in the lawnmower. Red Cross volunteers and KFRS’s own volunteer response team attended to provide emotional and welfare support to those affected.
Crews remain on scene damping down hot spots and working with a building inspector to assess structural safety.
A full investigation will begin once the buildings are safe to enter.
