Cannon Street Station Reopens After Harrowing Emergency
London’s Cannon Street underground station shut down for two tense hours yesterday after emergency crews responded to a chilling incident. Officers were called at around 3:20 PM on June 20 following reports of a person trapped under a train.
Life-Threatening Injuries as Emergency Teams Rush In
Multiple emergency units arrived at the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast-response vehicles, hazardous area response teams, and London’s air ambulance trauma team. A man was found injured and rushed to a major trauma centre where his injuries were confirmed as life-threatening.
Train Services Halted, Major Delays Across London Lines
The incident triggered a full closure of Cannon Street station and halted all train services on key lines. The Circle, District, Hammersmith & City lines were affected, with no service running between Whitechapel and Embankment, Aldgate and Edgware Road, and Liverpool Street and Barking. Passengers faced severe delays during the shutdown.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Cannon Street underground station following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics attended, and a person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.”
London Ambulance Service confirmed: “We sent multiple specialised resources to the scene, including a trauma team from London’s air ambulance. A man was treated on site and taken to a major trauma centre.”
Transport for London (TfL) has now confirmed that services have resumed and the station is open again.
