The smash happened on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 3 (Addington Interchange) and Junction 4 (Leybourne). Emergency services scrambled to the scene to tackle the fallout and assist those involved.
Traffic chaos with long delays
While two lanes have now reopened, drivers should brace for delays of around 45 minutes. Traffic jams stretch back two miles as crews continue to work. National Highways warns the road may stay blocked until 11pm, with normal traffic flow possibly not returning until after midnight.

This latest incident piles on to a frustrating day on the roads. Earlier, heavy congestion was reported on the A249 at Stockbury, where slip road closures due to flyover works have choked traffic further.
