M25 Chaos: Serious Crash Closes Motorway, Massive Tailbacks
The M25 is gridlocked this evening after a horrific crash near junction 25 (Cheshunt). Clockwise traffic remains shut between J23 (South Mimms) and J25, with 10 miles of crawling cars backed up almost as far as J20.
Anti-clockwise lanes aren’t faring much better, with 4 miles of heavy congestion piling up. Emergency services scrambled to the scene, including the air ambulance, as life-saving treatment was carried out right on the motorway.
Massive Delays on All Approaches
Highways England warns of severe jams, with 10 miles clogged clockwise on the M25, 4.8 miles on the A1M southbound, and 4 miles on the anticlockwise M25. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and choose alternative routes wherever possible.
Crash Details and Ongoing Investigation
“Police were called at 2.47pm on Thursday 28 November to reports of a collision between a van and a lorry at junction 25 of the M25 in north London,” said a Met Police spokesperson.
London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene. The van driver, believed to be a man in his 30s, was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. No other casualties have been reported. No arrests have been made; investigations are ongoing.
Recovery Underway but Expect Delays to Continue
By 9.16pm, Highways England urged trapped drivers to remain in their vehicles as the final recovery truck arrived. Officers worked to reopen the affected carriageways.
At 9.31pm, officials confirmed the scene was clear and the road reopened, but warned delays of over two hours on the clockwise approach to J23 remain.
Drivers should continue to steer clear of the M25 until rush-hour chaos eases later tonight.
