Fire Erupts at Maida Vale Electrical Substation – Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
Blaze Destroys High-Voltage Cable
Emergency crews rushed to Cunningham Place and Aberdeen Place in Maida Vale this afternoon after a fire broke out at an electrical substation. The blaze destroyed three metres of high-voltage cable, sparking a public safety alert.
16 Calls Flood Control Room, Firefighters Race to Scene
London Fire Brigade’s Control Room received 16 reports starting at 2:11pm on 12 May, as smoke billowed from the site. Crews from Paddington and Harrow fire stations were quickly dispatched to tackle the blaze.
The fire was declared under control by 5:46pm, though a visible plume of light smoke continued to drift in the area.
Residents Warned: Keep Doors and Windows Shut
Station Commander Paul Meyrick, who attended the incident, advised locals:
“There was light smoke in the vicinity of the substation fire so residents were advised to keep windows and doors shut.”
Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
Investigation and Power Supply Checks Underway
The cause of the fire remains unknown as investigators work to uncover what sparked the blaze. Meanwhile, local utility companies have been alerted and are assessing any impact on the area’s power supply.
