Massive Blaze Tears Through Zeenat Supermarket and Flats in Saltley
Firefighters rushed to Zeenat Supermarket on Alum Rock Road, Saltley, on Monday, September 19th, at 6:43pm to battle a fierce blaze. The fire quickly spread to the flats above the store, sparking a huge emergency response.
Huge Fire Response Mobilised
Fire crews deployed 12 fire engines, 5 brigade response vehicles, and 2 hydraulic platforms to tackle the inferno. At the peak of the operation, over 70 firefighters were on the scene using powerful main jets to stop the fire from spreading further and to douse the flames.
Neighbouring Areas Locked Down
Thanks to quick and decisive action, firefighters prevented the blaze from reaching nearby homes and Thornton Primary School. However, a large area remains cordoned off, with multiple roads closed:

- Alum Rock railway bridge
- Woodhall Road
- Bankdale Road
- Thornton Road
- Washwood Heath Road
- Chetwyn Road
- Alum Rock Road
- Beanie Lane
Residents are advised to avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut to protect against smoke.
Under Investigation – But No Injuries
Officials are now investigating the cause of the fire. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported so far.
