Train chaos hits Cardiff and Manchester this morning! Two of the UK’s busiest stations—Cardiff Central and Manchester Piccadilly—were crippled by technical failures, sparking widespread delays, cancellations, and commuter fury.
Cardiff Central Grind to a Halt
A system signalling failure at Cardiff Central wreaked havoc from the start of the day. Services between Cardiff, Penarth, Barry Island, Caerphilly, and Queen Street were either cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes, or subject to timetable changes.
National Rail initially promised repairs by 8:30am, but chaos is expected to roll on until mid-morning.
“Trains running between Cardiff Central and Penarth / Barry Island may be cancelled, delayed or revised. We apologise for the disruption caused,” a National Rail spokesperson confirmed.
Manchester Piccadilly Halted by Points Failure
Meanwhile in Manchester, a points failure between Manchester Piccadilly and Guide Bridge blocked key lines, causing massive delays up to 60 minutes on Northern and TransPennine Express routes.
Services between Manchester Piccadilly, Hadfield, Stalybridge, and Rose Hill Marple were hit the hardest, with several cancellations. Rail replacement buses have been deployed.
“Major disruption is expected until 10:00am. Trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Huddersfield / York may also be cancelled, delayed, or revised,” National Rail warned.
