Massive Fire Tears Through Aldgate Apartment Block

A huge blaze has ripped through a residential building on Leman Street, Aldgate, sparking a major emergency response tonight.

Firefighters Battle Blaze on Multiple Floors

The London Fire Brigade rushed 15 fire engines and 100 firefighters to the scene after the fire broke out shortly after 5.30pm. Flames engulfed a flat on the fifth floor and spread to part of a flat on the seventh floor.

Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green, and nearby stations are battling the inferno.

64-Metre Ladder Used as Observation Tower

A 64-metre turntable ladder has been deployed as an observation tower to give commanders a bird’s-eye view and guide firefighting efforts.

“Fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters are tackling a flat fire on Leman Street in Aldgate. A fifth-floor flat is alight and part of a second flat on the seventh floor is also affected,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said.

“One of the Brigade’s 64-metre turntable ladders is being used as an observation tower, providing a vantage point for incident commanders to assess the incident.”

“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took the first of 15 calls to the fire at 17:43 and crews were swiftly mobilised. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.”

No Reported Injuries, Cause Unknown

pThere are currently no reports of injuries or trapped residents, and emergency services have yet to confirm if evacuations were necessary. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
