Emergency scramble on Thames after two plunge into river at Gravesend
This Friday afternoon, chaos erupted on the River Thames near Gravesend after two people were spotted entering the water close to Royal Pier Terrace.
Rapid Response From Multiple Agencies
At around 1.46pm, the Port of London Authority raised the alarm. Kent Police, the RNLI lifeboats, South East Coast Ambulance Service, and Kent Fire and Rescue Service flooded the scene. Police swiftly cordoned off Commercial Place, while officers scanned the riverbank stretching from Royal Terrace Pier to Town Pier.
Witnesses spotted four vessels, including police boats and RNLI lifeboats, combing the waters near the Port of London Authority’s Gravesend offices as search efforts intensified.
“Officers, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the RNLI and South East Coast Ambulance Service are on scene where enquiries and a search are underway,” confirmed a Kent Police spokesperson.
RNLI Joins The Hunt
The Gravesend RNLI lifeboat crew revealed they were called into action just before 2pm by HM Coastguard to back up the police-led search and rescue mission. They remain actively involved as the situation unfolds.
