Man Hurls Racial Abuse at Hijab-Wearing Woman in Portsmouth Shop

Police are hunting a man after a shocking racially aggravated attack in a Portsmouth store.

Hate Incident Shakes Portsmouth Wilko

The ugly episode happened around 11am on Thursday, June 2, inside the Wilko shop on Arundel Street. A 28-year-old woman wearing a hijab was targeted and verbally abused by a man.

Police Describe Suspect

  • White male
  • Aged late 30s to early 50s
  • About 5ft 6in tall
  • Long blonde/brown/grey hair tied in a ponytail
  • Heavy build
  • Local accent

Witness Appeal

“This was unprovoked and unacceptable,” said Police Staff Investigator Olivia Freeman from the Eastern Investigations Team. “The racist harassment happened in public, right in front of other shoppers.”
