A frantic police chase unfolded on Stamford Street, Waterloo, London, on 3 June when a 34-year-old man refused to stop for City of London Police. The driver’s erratic behaviour led to an undercover police car flipping over, leaving two officers and a tuk-tuk driver hospitalised, and a public witness treated for chest pains.

High-speed Chase Ends In Chaos

The pursuit began around 3:45pm on Farringdon Road after the suspect failed to pull over for police. Officers in two unmarked cars authorised a Tactical Pursuit and Containment (TPAC) to stop the vehicle, but the suspect’s dangerous manoeuvres escalated the incident.

Flipped Police Car Shock

Attempts to corner the vehicle went awry when the driver performed a handbrake turn, causing an unmarked police vehicle to mount his car and flip over on Stamford Street. Two officers exited the overturned car and were taken to the hospital as a precaution, sustaining no serious injuries.

Suspects Reckless Driving

  • The driver rammed police cars multiple times.
  • He mounted the pavement, risking pedestrian safety.
  • The chase ended with his arrest on charges including dangerous driving, failure to stop, no insurance, criminal damage, and drug driving.

Injuries And Public Safety

Alongside the officers, a tuk-tuk driver suffered minor injuries and was hospitalised. A bystander who witnessed the ordeal experienced chest pains and received treatment on the scene. Police praised the tactical driving skills that minimised potential harm to the public.

Chief Inspector James Minney, City of London Police, said: “The suspect’s vehicle mounted the pavement endangering members of the public. Specialist trained tactical police drivers affected the stop and made the arrest. The officers’ actions reduced the number of people who could have been injured.”
