London Gears Up for Marathon Madness and Football Frenzy
London is set to be buzzing this weekend as it hosts the prestigious London Marathon and the children’s Mini Marathon. On top of that, two FA Cup Semi Finals and several other football matches will flood the capital with fans and excitement. Assistant Commissioner Matt Twist promises a big police presence to keep the city safe and running smoothly.
Four Days of Extinction Rebellion Protests Planned
Extinction Rebellion has scheduled four days of protests, but the Met Police are ready. “Our experienced teams will be on duty alongside British Transport Police and City of London Police,” said Twist. Expect to see officers patrolling busy spots and transport hubs, keeping a close eye on crowds.
Policing Plans to Tackle Disruption Head-On
The police are in talks with Extinction Rebellion organisers, aiming to avoid major delays and disruption across London. Specialists will be on hand to quickly handle protesters who lock or glue themselves to street furniture. “Where protests cross the line into criminal acts, we will act fast to restore order and make arrests,” warned Twist. He urged the public to stay clear and not intervene themselves.
Marathon and Football Fans Urged to Plan Ahead
Londoners and visitors are advised to check TfL and official marathon websites before travelling due to multiple road closures. “We want everyone to enjoy the events safely,” said Twist. Over 1,900 officers will be deployed at the football matches to clamp down on crime and keep public order tight.
