More Brits to Be Flown Home from Nigeria on UK Government Charters

Nearly 900 more British travellers stranded in Nigeria are set to return to the UK on three new government-chartered flights. This move will boost the total number of Brits flown home from Nigeria to around 2,000, following last week’s flights from Lagos and Abuja.

Flight Dates and Details

  • Tuesday 28 April: Abuja to London
  • Friday 1 May: Lagos to London
  • Tuesday 5 May: Lagos to London

The flights prioritise British travellers and their dependents whose main residence is the UK. Vulnerable passengers, including those with health conditions, are given top priority.

Government Response and Support

“Our next phase of UK Government charter flights will mean another 900 British travellers are able to return home from Nigeria,” said Minister of State for Africa, James Duddridge. “We appreciate this has been a difficult time and will continue to work closely with the Nigerian authorities to support those wishing to return to the UK.”

UK Gov’s Global Effort to Bring Brits Home

The UK Government is collaborating with airlines and host countries worldwide to repatriate British citizens. Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has allocated up to £75 million for special charter flights to priority countries. The focus is on helping the most vulnerable stranded travellers.

So far, these charter flights have brought Brits back from India, the Philippines, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nepal, Ghana, Tunisia, Algeria, and Peru — with Nigeria now firmly on the list.
