Blaze Breaks Out in Wood Green Flats – Firefighters Rescue Three
Four fire engines and 25 firefighters raced to tackle a flat fire on Hornsey Park Road, Wood Green. The flames ripped through most of the first floor and part of the second floor of a terraced house converted into flats.
Three Rescued, Several Evacuated
Firefighters used a 9-metre ladder to rescue two people from the second floor and one from the first. All three were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service crews. Meanwhile, three more residents escaped before the Brigade arrived. Seven neighbours were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Fire Survival Tips and Possible Cause
Before the firefighters arrived, 999 Control Officers issued essential survival advice to those trapped inside. The fire is believed to have started accidentally due to lithium-ion batteries.
A London Fire Brigade spokesperson warned: “Lithium-ion batteries are susceptible to failure if incorrect chargers are used, so it’s important to always use the correct charger for the product and buy an official one from a reputable seller.
Batteries can also pose a risk if damaged. Avoid getting them knocked around during use, and never expose them to extreme temperature changes.”
Swift Action Put Out Fire
The Brigade was called at 8.26am and had the blaze under control by 8.49am. Fire crews from Hornsey, Holloway, Tottenham, and Southgate stations tackled the inferno.
