New COVID-19 Cases Hit Surrey as Local Pub Shuts for Deep Clean
Surrey is on alert after three new COVID-19 cases were confirmed today. The Chief Medical Officer for England revealed these latest infections are linked to a man who tested positive in Surrey on February 28, raising the county’s total to two confirmed cases.
Family Cluster Spreads Across Surrey and West Sussex
The other two cases tied to this family cluster have been confirmed in neighbouring West Sussex. All four affected adults are not healthcare workers. Ruth Hutchinson, Interim Director of Public Health for Surrey County Council, and Anna Raleigh from West Sussex’s health council, stressed that teams are working closely with Public Health England (PHE) and the NHS to contain the spread.
“We’re making good progress tracing close contacts and advising those who need to self-isolate,” they said. “If you haven’t been contacted by PHE, carry on as normal but follow all public health advice carefully.”
Contact Tracing Underway as GP Surgery Closes
Contact tracing is in full swing, with health officials tracking people who have been near confirmed cases. Testing is ongoing where necessary. As a precaution, a GP surgery in the area has shut its doors for a deep clean, in line with primary care safety protocols.
Dr James Mapstone, Acting Regional Director for Public Health England in the South, added:
“We’re aware of the people these patients have been in touch with and are providing advice on symptoms and next steps.”
Self-Isolation: What You Need to Know
If you are asked to self-isolate – even without symptoms – stay home for 14 days. Avoid work, school, and public places. Visitors should not enter your home, though food deliveries are allowed. Do not use public transport or taxis during this period.
Monitor yourself for fever, cough, or breathing difficulties and call NHS 111 if symptoms develop. Regular hand washing and using tissues to catch coughs or sneezes remain crucial to stopping the spread.
Stay Calm, Stay Safe
Public Health England assures the public that containment measures are effective. “Our county councils and health partners are well-prepared and on high alert to minimise further infections,” say local health chiefs.
For ongoing updates and advice, keep an eye on official health channels and continue practising good hygiene and social distancing.
