Suspicious Blaze Ravages Luton Road Early Thursday
A fire tore through a property near the junction of Luton Road and Bank Street at around 6am on Thursday, 20 July 2023.
Kent Firefighters Battle Spreading Flames
Kent Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze. The flames spread quickly from a carport to a neighbouring building, but firefighters managed to bring it under control.
Family Evacuated and Hospitalised
A family living at the address was evacuated and taken to hospital after suffering smoke inhalation. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported.
Police Probe Fire as Suspicious
Detective Sergeant Hannah Brown from Medway CID declared the fire suspicious. She urged witnesses to come forward.
“We are appealing to anyone who saw suspicious behaviour around 6am or anyone running from the scene shortly after the fire started to contact us,” she said.
“Motorists with dashcam footage and local residents with CCTV are also asked to check their recordings – it could be vital.”
