Mass Arrests Rock Parliament Square
Police have swooped on Parliament Square, arresting a whopping 365 people today in a major crackdown. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the haul of arrests was mainly for supporting a proscribed organisation, amid protests backing the banned group Palestine Action.
Pro-Palestine Protest Sparks Police Blitz
The day kicked off with growing crowds waving placards for Palestine Action, which UK law has outlawed. By mid-afternoon, the Met revealed 150 suspects had been locked up. Just an hour later that number jumped to 200. By 6pm, the total had soared to 365. Officers said they were “steadily working through the crowd” to nab more if needed.
Assaults on Officers and Misinformation Claims
- Seven other arrests for assorted offences, including five for attacking police.
- Thankfully, none of the cops suffered serious injuries.
- Police dismissed claims from protest organisers, accusing them of spreading false information about arrest rules and police powers.
Calm Returns as Protesters Disperse
By late afternoon, many remaining in the square were press and bystanders. The Met confirmed officers are still targeting anyone supporting the banned group. Although the area remains busy, tensions have started to ease as crowds thin out.
