Spanish Lorry Driver Airlifted After Shocking Fall from M20 Bridge

An overseas lorry driver suffered serious injuries after falling from a motorway bridge near Hospital Road in Hollingbourne this morning. The man, believed to be from Spain, was airlifted to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Crash Drama on M20 Operation Brock

The incident happened around 9am on Thursday, 7th April 2022. The driver, waiting in Operation Brock on the M20, reportedly left his Spanish-registered HGV cab to use a roadside toilet. Tragically, he fell from the bridge.

Kent Police officers and South East Coast Ambulance paramedics rushed to the scene, with the specialist HART teams providing advanced support. Officers from Kent Roads Police stabilised the injured driver using onboard first-aid life packs.

Traffic Chaos Delays Emergency Response

Emergency crews faced major delays due to the M20 closure and Brock Zero restrictions, forcing paramedics to find alternative routes. Officers had to halt traffic and scramble down motorway verges to reach and assist the man.

After being treated on-site, the driver was carefully packaged by paramedics and airlifted to hospital for urgent care.

Kent Police Respond

Kent Police have been approached for comment on the incident as investigations continue into the fall.
