Piccadilly Line Chaos to Drag On Until Mid-October
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that regular weekend and night closures on the Piccadilly line will continue until at least mid-October. The disruptions are part of a major upgrade to prepare the line for a brand-new fleet of trains.
Why the Hassle? New Trains Incoming
The Piccadilly line, running from Heathrow through central London to Cockfosters, has been plagued with ongoing closures since late 2024. These are essential to install new infrastructure for the upcoming air-conditioned, walk-through trains, expected to hit the rails by the end of 2025.
A TfL spokesperson said:
“We understand the ongoing closures are frustrating, but they are essential to deliver the improvements needed to bring the new trains into service safely. We appreciate customers’ patience as we work to modernise one of the busiest lines on the Underground.”

Commuters Face Weekend Travel Nightmares
The regular closures hit core commuter routes, Heathrow airport links, and popular night journeys. TfL urges travellers to check journey planners carefully, allow extra time, and switch to other lines like the Central and Jubilee where possible.
One fed-up Piccadilly regular at King’s Cross said:
“I get the need for upgrades, but the constant weekend closures are exhausting—it’s a guessing game every Friday night.”
TfL promises these disruptions won’t last forever and pledges better, more reliable service when the new trains debut.
