Tragic Fire Claims Three Lives at Aberdeen Hotel
Three people have been named after a deadly fire ripped through the New County Hotel in Aberdeen just after 5am on Monday, 2 January 2023.
Victims Identified
- Sisters Donna Janse Van Rensburg, 44, and Sharon McLean, 47, both from Aberdeen
- Keith Russell, 38, originally from edinburgh/" title="Edinburgh" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Edinburgh
Donna’s beloved King Charles spaniel, Joey, aged three, also died in the blaze.
Family Pays Tribute
“Keith was a loving father and loved by all his family. He will be greatly missed,” said Mr Russell’s family in a heartfelt statement.
Police Update
Chief Superintendent Phil Davison expressed condolences: “Our thoughts continue to be with the family and friends of those who died, as well as the many people affected by this incident.”
He confirmed a joint probe with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is underway, with a full report to be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Davison added: “I would like to thank all the emergency services and partner agencies involved, as well as the local community, for their patience during the ongoing enquiries.”
