Body Found in Water at Jackie Spencer Bridge in Gosport
Emergency services sealed off Jackie Spencer Bridge in Gosport this morning after a body was found in the water. The discovery came at around 9am on Clay Hill Road during a search for missing 27-year-old Michael Stratton.
Tragic Find in Ongoing Search
Hampshire Police confirmed the body is believed to be Michael Stratton, who went missing yesterday afternoon. Officers said, “Body has been found in water in Gosport. Next of kin of missing Michael Stratton (27) informed. ID to be completed. Thanks for sharing appeal.”
Michael Stratton Missing After Jump from Bridge
Michael was reported missing following reports he jumped from Jackie Spencer Bridge, also known locally as the Black Bridge, at about 2pm on Saturday, July 23.
The police statement issued at the time read:
“We’re concerned for his welfare as he hasn’t been seen since around 2pm yesterday (Saturday, July 23), when he was in Clayhall Road, Gosport.
It’s believed he was jumping off the Jackie Spencer bridge into the water.
The Coastguard was called, but Michael hasn’t been located.
We’d like to hear from any witnesses, or anyone who has seen Michael since 2pm or anyone with any information. Please call 101.”
