Drama at Southeast London Premier Inn as hotel evacuated over suspected suicide attempt

Emergency Evacuation at Orpington Hotel

Staff and guests were rushed out of the South East 1 Premier Inn in Orpington after a suspected suicide attempt on Wednesday night.

Police were called to the scene at 10.15pm following concerns for a man’s welfare. They quickly evacuated the entire hotel as a safety precaution.

Officers were joined by London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade to search the room and assess the situation.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Man Detained Under Mental Health Act

The man, thought to be in his 30s, was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a south London hospital for treatment, confirmed a Met Police spokesman.

The spokesperson added: “Police were called at 10.15pm on Wednesday, 29 December following concerns for the welfare of a man at a hotel in The Walnuts, Orpington. The building was evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.”
