Don’t Let an Expired Passport Ruin Your Family Holiday!
Planning a trip abroad with the kids? Before you pack your bags, double-check your child’s passport. In the UK, children under 16 need their own five-year passport. If it’s due to expire before you jet off, you need to renew it—fast.
How to Renew Your Child’s Passport – Quick and Simple
You can renew a child’s passport online or by post. Prices vary, so pick the option that suits you best:
- Online Renewal: Costs £53.50. Upload a digital photo and supporting documents via the official UK Government website.
- Postal Renewal: Costs £64. Pick up a paper form from a Post Office offering Passport Check and Send, or call the Passport Adviceline on 0300 222 0000.
Fill in sections 1, 2, 3, 4, and 9 of the form. If your child is 12 or older, they must sign section 6. For kids under 12 or if their old passport photo no longer looks like them, a countersignatory must certify the new photo in section 10.
Send your completed form, photos, and documents back using the supplied envelope or use a Post Office’s Passport Check and Send to make sure everything’s spot-on.
What You’ll Need for the Renewal
- Your child’s old passport
- Any other valid passports they hold from other countries
- Relevant court orders about parental responsibility or residency, if applicable
- A recent digital or printed photo depending on your application method
Sorting your child’s passport ahead of time means less hassle and more holiday fun. Don’t get caught out—renew early and travel stress-free!
